Constitution
“We hereby constitute ourselves a voluntary Association to advance, promote, foster, and benefit all those connected with the art of the theatre and particularly the profession of acting and the conditions of persons engaged therein; to protect and secure the rights of actors; to inform them as to their legal rights and remedies; to advise and assist them in obtaining employment and proper compensation therefor; to procure appropriate legislation upon matters affecting their profession…”
-Preamble to Equity’s Constitution, Adopted 1913
Equity is a national union with regional and satellite offices (it does not have locals, as many unions do). The Constitution and By-Laws, written, adopted and enforced by members, govern the overall structure and workings of Equity. When you apply for entry into the Association, you agree, as a condition of membership, to be bound by its provisions.
