A Bronx Tale Gypsy Robe goes to “One of the Great Ones,” Jonathan Brody

Dennis Stowe“The Gypsy Robe represents the history of musical theatre and I'm so honored to be a part of it. I've been to many Robe ceremonies, both for shows I was in and as a Councilor representing Equity. It's often touching and emotional to attend, but that’s nothing compared to actually receiving it yourself. Hearing my name called (and it was a surprise as others in my show had the same number of credits) was a thrilling moment." - Jonathan Brody

It’s “No One Else” but Gypsy Robe Recipient Katrina Yaukey

Dennis Stowe“After putting the robe on, I began the journey of circling the stage, or rather, the stair maze at the Imperial. What was most thrilling to me was the opportunity to really look into the eyes of each person, cast and crew, as I passed them, celebrating the strong ensemble piece of theatre we've created in The Great Comet. For me, receiving the robe is an honor that is not taken lightly!”- Katrina Yaukey

"It's a Lovely Day Today" for Holiday Inn's Gypsy Robe recipient Jenifer Foote

Dennis Stowe“I am simply thankful every day to be a part of the Broadway Community.  The traditions of the theatre are truly what make it such a remarkable place to be.  From the tradition of the Stage Manager announcing "It's Saturday night on Broadway" to signing up for the Broadway show softball league in the Spring, each are special and unique. And the Gypsy Robesm is chief among those very special traditions.  ” - Jenifer Foote

And, I always shed a tear when the people making their Broadway debuts stand in a group to be celebrated. I remember how emotional it was for me the day I made mine.” - Jeremy Davis

Ain’t No Mountain High Enough for Rod Harrelson, the latest recipient of the Gypsy Robe for Motown the Musical

Dennis Stowe“The Gypsy Robesm tradition symbolizes a great wealth of theatre history and rite of passage. It reminds me of the many people who have come before me and what they did to further our community; it’s a wonderful honor to have. During the ceremony I was excited and proud, and what I remember most are the happy faces of all of our Broadway newbies making their debuts.” - Rod Harrelson

Flying High! Paramour on Broadway's Justin Prescott is the recipient of the first Gypsy Robe for the 2016/2017 season

Dennis Stowe“When I heard my name I almost fainted — not really, but my heart did skip a beat. Seeing this tradition being passed down for the past six years, and to now be a part of it is an awesome feeling. I remember seeing all of my colleagues smiling and screaming as I ran around the circle; it was like I was crowned the prom king!” - Justin Prescott

Arbender Robinson earns his fourth Gypsy Robe with Shuffle Along

Dennis Stowe“I love the Gypsy Robesm ceremony because we first get to celebrate all those making their Broadway debut.  There is so much happening on opening night — this is one way that we don't forget the wonderful joy for the people making their debut.
We all know how the Gypsy Robesm recipient is decided. It was a surprise because I really thought it was going to another cast member. I was there to say ‘surprise’ however the surprise was on me.”  - Arbender Robinson

The “Everlasting” Robe! Lisa B. Gajda wears the Gypsy Robe for Tuck Everlasting

Dennis Stowe“The Gypsy Robesm ceremony is the only true celebration of the chorus person in all of show business. It’s also special to me because it connects me — and everyone who participates in the ceremony — to people who've worked in the ensemble since the 1950s.” - Lisa B. Gajda

Mind the blood! Alex Michael Stoll is American Psycho’s Gypsy Robe recipient

Dennis Stowe“The Gypsy Robesm is a continuing circulation of energy between some of the hardest working people in New York City and the backbone of Broadway: the ensemble. Shining Bright! Sarah Jane Shanks takes the Gypsy Robe for Bright Star

Dennis Stowe“Having been part of four Gypsy Robesm ceremonies now, I’ve always looked up to Broadway gypsies — people that move fluidly from the ensemble of one show to another. There is a limited number of Broadway contracts available compared to the countless talented, deserving people out there. Each role, whether principal or ensemble, is hard-earned and special." - Sarah Jane Shanks

The first Gypsy Robe of 2016 goes to Paul Castree for Disaster!

It's such a uniquely 'Broadway' tradition and everyone appreciates that it celebrates cast members on chorus contracts whose names aren't necessarily on the marquee of the theatre, but who are the backbone of the Broadway musical. I am proud to wear the Robe for Disaster! — and I accept it on behalf of our entire ensemble who are fantastic every performance.” - Paul Castree

The tradition continues! Jeffrey Schecter garners the Gypsy Robe for Fiddler on the Roof

Dennis Stowe“To me, the Gypsy Robesm, and the tradition itself, symbolizes an acknowledgement of the unsung heroes. It is very easy to acknowledge the principals in a show because they are so often featured. The ensemble characters sometimes have a little bit of that, but more often than not it is the ensemble member that truly creates something from nothing. The Gypsy Robesm tradition not only acknowledges the ensemble members in a beautiful way, but goes further by acknowledging someone who has done it many times."   - Jeffrey Schecter

Betsy Struxness Makes History at Hamilton in the “hardest but most rewarding show” of her career

Dennis Stowe“To be part of a tradition that honors someone for their work as an ensemble member is in fact just that — an honor. We tend to get lost in the background noise of the buzz that surrounds any given Broadway show, but usually, more is being asked from the ensemble than any other member of the performing company.” – Betsy Struxness more...

He’s Amazing. Dan Sharkey is this season’s first recipient of the Gypsy Robe

Dennis Stowe“While I love all the wonderful traditions of the Broadway stage, the Gypsy Robesm has always been my favorite. For His ‘Gypsy Robe’ Moment, Ron Todorowski Reflects on the Past to Keep Himself Present

Dennis Stowe

“The Gypsy Robesm tradition embodies – and acknowledges – the hard work it takes by those in the chorus to forge a career on Broadway. I genuinely felt the love and support from my colleagues when I was presented the robe onstage. During the ceremony, I recall the welcoming of past robe recipients. It was such a thrill to hear that one of my fellow AEAers had received the robe in the 1979 revival of Peter Pan when it was mounted in my current Broadway home at the Lunt-Fontanne!” - Ron Todorowski more...

Life Imitates Art at ‘American in Paris’ for Lifelong Francophile and Chorus Dancer Jennie Ford

Dennis Stowe

“To be honored with the Gypsy Robesm is the ultimate acknowledgement for a chorus actor. It was such a pleasant surprise to have the robe passed on by Charlie Sutton (Kinky Boots), a fellow chorus member and robe recipient. The entire ceremony is a great display of the generosity and spirit of the “gypsies.” I have also spent a great deal of my professional career advocating for the rights, advancement and protections of chorus performers. I even wrote a book, “Be the Best Swing on Broadway” to raise awareness of the important role the chorus plays in a musical production. This was an amazing moment and it means so much to me.” - Jennie Ford more...

'Young' Broadway Vet Cameron Adams Earns her Second Gypsy Robe

Dennis Stowe

“Receiving the Gypsy Robesm is such an incredible honor and symbolizes the hard work and dedication that chorus members have committed to on the stage in our professional careers. I am so proud to have been a part of each and every company I've performed with, whether it was a long or short run. I've met some of my closest friends and the people that mean the most to me while working as an Equity member over the past 15 years. It never gets old. What we get to do is magical and so rewarding. I love being a true Broadway ‘gypsy’ and continuing on this long-standing tradition.” - Cameron Adams more...

For me, it's an absolute honor to be acknowledged for being a supportive team player in this company.” – Bahiyah Hibah
