Jayne Houdyshell and Jim Dale received the annual Richard Seff Awards, presented by the Actors' Equity Foundation, at Equity's Eastern Regional Board Meeting on August 1. The awards honor a female and male character actor, 50 years of age or older, for the best performance in a supporting role in a Broadway or Off-Broadway production. The honorees were awarded $1,000 each plus a crystal trophy.

Ms. Houdyshell was honored for her performance as Ann in Lisa Kron's WELL on Broadway. When the play was performed at the Public Theatre in 2004, Ms. Houdyshell received the Obie Award and Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle and Lucille Lortel Award nominations. Mr. Dale was recognized for his performance as Mr. Peachum in the Roundabout Theatre Company's production of THE THREEPENNY OPERA. Recipient of a Tony Award for BARNUM in 1980, Mr. Dale also has received four Tony nominations, three Drama Desk Awards, three Outer Critics Circle Awards and a Lucille Lortel Award.

In 2003 the Actors' Equity Foundation established the Richard Seff Award, an annual award to be given to a male and female character actor who is 50 years old or older and who has been a member of the Actors' Equity for 25 years or longer, for the best performance in a featured or unfeatured supporting role in a Broadway or Off Broadway production.
