The Joe A. Callaway Award
Elizabeth Marvel
(January 18, 2006) Elizabeth Marvel, who played the title role in the New
York Theatre Workshop production of HEDDA GABLER, and Sean McNall, Mr. Paris
in The Pearl Theatre company production of THE GENTLEMAN DANCING-MASTER,
have been selected to receive this year's Joe A. Callaway Award presented by
the Actors' Equity Foundation. The award, a $1,000 check plus an engraved
plaque, honors the best performances in a professional production of a
classic play (one written prior to 1920) in the New York metropolitan area.

The award was established by Equity member Joe A. Callaway to encourage
participation in the classics and non-profit theatre. It will be presented
at Equity's Eastern Regional Board meeting at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 14,
2006 at the Equity offices, 165 West 46th Street, New York City.
The Judges' Panel for the award includes Betty Corwin, Director of Special
Projects, Theatre on Film & Tape Archive of the Lincoln Center Library for
the Performing Arts; Michael Kuchwara, Associated Press; David Rosenberg,
Back Stage, and Douglas Watt, The Daily News.
